What kind of blogger/commentator are you?
We learned today in "self-improvement" class (snort) that the following is an inappropriate way of listening:
1: Voice your agreement or diasagreement with what the person is saying to you.
2: Connect what the speaker is saying to your own life and then give scenarios where you can relate to his experiences.
3: Give advice.
These are the proper ways of listening:
1: Body language (if person is present) - nod, keep eye contact, face speaker, etc.
2: Ask good, pertinent Qs to get the speak to think more about what his true feelings are about the matter, and to better understand him.
3: Summarize; repeat back to the person what he is trying to get across.
DOES THIS APPLY TO BLOGGERS/COMMENTATORS???
In what ways DOES it, and in what ways does it NOT?

Um, this is a very submissive way of listening to a speaker. If you want to gain knowledge then it is certainly important to put your own intuition aside and listen in. There is a lot to gain from everybody. However, if the speaker is saying something problematic, or the blogger writing something disagreeable, you certainly have the right to protest and offer advice. Obviously only if it's done coherently cause attacks are never helpful.
graj im MOICHAL you.. ha ha
nemo - yup yup and yup.
a couple things tho - this, as i said, is for good listening.. but my Q was does it apply to blogging... bc i think that we blog for a few reasons - one being that wed love to hear feedback. personally, i love to be the devils advocate. this is a much better outlet than class, of course, but still this is a bloggers way of hearing what others have to say.
oh, and sometimes its ok to attack. like some bloggers get me so annoyed i just wanna shake them lol so instead i say something on their blog - only words. how badly can it hurt (bricks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me) :)
I personally don't write for feedback. I enjoy it, but I write what I'm thinking about and not what entertains people. That's why most of what I write are essays and not "hey, what do you think about..." I started adding in my shtick here and there cause it's always a conversation maker and signs of activity are always assuring.
Sorry, I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the original post or not. I think a good blogger is one that gives a measured and thought out response, whether it's a quip or if it's a rebuttal. Sometimes the beauty is in acceptance and laughing along while others are dealing maturely with controversial issues.
nemo - ill give u feedback on this, eventho u didnt comment bc u wanted to know what id have to say... :)
its all definitely is relative to the subject, btw. thats the thing about blogging, it doesnt even all have to BE relative, relevant, etc.
